I managed to catch the tail end of without a whisper's show last night just before wrought played. I don't think they stuck around but they could definately have learned something if they had. Showing up to see Jumbo's Kill Crane in December might do them a world of good as well. They were proficient but lifeless.

Found this via memepool, for the geekier times...
and now for a moment of prayer...
Our Intelligent Designer,
Who art in the unspecified-good-place,
Unknown be Thy name.
Thy flagella spin, Thy mousetraps snap,
On Earth, as it is in the
Unspecified-good-place.
Give us each day our unchecked apologetic.
And forgive us our invidious comparisons,
As we smite those iniquitous Darwinists
With rhetoric.
And lead us not into encounters with people
Who ask us to state our theory,
But deliver us from biologists
Who know what we’re up to.
For Thine is the irreducible complexity,
And the wiggly parts of bacterial bottoms,
And the inapplicable theorems,
Now and forever.
Amen.

No, see, we don't want to reinstate the draft, that's part of our argument for this.

Remember that scene from Forrest Gump where Tom Hanks tells Kennedy he has to pee on national television? Now, imagine those roles were reversed. Khrushchev would have fired his nukes just to put us out of our misery. My friends, I give you Armageddon.

DeLay to evacuees: 'Is this kind of fun?'
U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's visit to Reliant Park this morning offered him a glimpse of what it's like to be living in shelter.
While on the tour with top administration officials from Washington, including U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao and U.S. Treasury Secretary John W. Snow, DeLay stopped to chat with three young boys resting on cots.
The congressman likened their stay to being at camp and asked, "Now tell me the truth boys, is this kind of fun?"
They nodded yes, but looked perplexed.
With a group of reporters and press officers in tow, DeLay then moved on, chatting with others, including a local IRS representative. He then visited with job recruiters set up in Reliant Park.
Earlier DeLay spoke with volunteers and thanked them for their service.
"You are becoming famous all over this country and even the world," he said, adding that he's often approached by lawmakers commending Houston's response to the disaster.

You may have already seen this, but if not, here's a timeline of Katrina Response. Boing Boing has been keeping tabs on often the federal gov't has been stalling aid from foreign countries but I really don't care to read all of that right now. Enjoy your weekend!

Forced Evacuation responses:
"These people don't understand they're putting themselves in harm's way," said New Orleans Police Superintendent P. Edwin Compass.
"I don't have any information, though I have felt safer here than going anyplace else," she said. "The people who knew us left us behind. They were more concerned about their cars and dogs than us."
"If I'm gonna be miserable, I'd better be miserable right here," said Robert Johnson, 58, from his rundown house in the city's 9th Ward.
"They manhandled me and paid no mind to what I said. I ain't never been in no helicopter in my life, or no airplane, and I'm 72, I ain't starting now...I'm not going to get that tetanus shot, so I guess I'll just have to die," she said, adding, "We're all going to die and if I'm going to die, it's gonna be right here in New Orleans."

While some fight the insurgency in the city, other carry on with rescue and evacuation operations. Helicopters are still pulling hundreds of stranded people from rooftops of flooded homes.

Bob Harris, Bill Mon, and Leiter all have some good postings on how a more civilized society might handle something of this nature.
